The "Garage" Phase - Ideation

About 35% percent of startups have a departing founder in their first two years. And most of the legal headaches happen when the founder skips this step. This should be the first thing you do before you start working on your idea.

Garaža is always there when help is needed, and it was no different after we raised our first investment.

So far, we have been using bilingual Employee Contracts from the Garaža Open Source Documents. This document came at the right time because we needed bilingual documentation in the due diligence process. An additional relief is that when writing the documentation, the specifics of startups were already thought about, such as better defining IP ownership than standard employment contracts.

Definitely the best initiative I've seen and used!

I used Garaža's Employment Agreement, Confidentiality Agreement, Work Contract, as well as the Articles of Association and Work Regulations. It helped me a lot to be prepared for conversations with accountants and lawyers. I am grateful to the people who turned their experience and knowledge into a platform that saved me personally time and money in preparing the necessary documentation for running and laying a healthy foundation for a startup.

Why we did this?

Following the spirit and practicality of Open-Source Software (OSS) and being inspired by the effect of the Y Combinator SAFE agreement, we wanted to do the same but for legal documents for Serbian startups. When you are just starting out with a startup, usually the last thing on your mind is legal work, and if it is you often scratch your head how you will pay the legal feels.

More often than not, the very documents that you need are templates that people pull out of a drawer and pre-fill with your company info. That why we created, curated and gave away those very same templates to all startups!

They are adapted to the needs of startups so that they are: bilingual, employer & employee friendly and protect all important aspects of your business (IP, know-how, confidentiality) so that your due-diligence process is much faster.
